THIS WEEK ON BROADWAY

Pentecost Mulch

Last Saturday a group of hardy workers came out and gave a lot of time on Saturday on landscaping around Broadway.  They did great work.  And they are planning on coming back a week from this Saturday to do a bit more.  A big pile of mulch was dropped off in the east parking lot on Saturday morning - and that mulch has served the purpose of fertilizing the soil around Broadway.  There are some new Japanese maples planted along the east side.  The north side has some new bushes and flowers.  And there is still that pile of mulch.

As we come to this Sunday, this Pentecost Sunday, a Sunday that reminds us of the gift of the Holy Spirit (a gift that came to the world, not to the church) -- I see in that pile of mulch in the parking lot a reminder of the role that the Gospel plays in the world...yeast for the rising of the dough, mulch for the flowering of our landscape -- and so it is that I see the Spirit rising and flowering in you and in the world around us.

Yesterday we were having a meeting in the conference room a fellow, a new friend named William, who doesn't have a place to live, stopped by while some of the staff were meeting and talking.  He came into the conference room and sang two songs -- original pieces that told his story in beautiful, simple, and dramatic fashion.  As his sweet voice and countenance wove his story and God's story together -- it reminded me once again -- of the glory of God at work in all of us and that when we share those gifts, it adds music and beauty and meaning to our lives.

Keep tellin' the Story,

Mike
