Drew:

Drew is a professional photographer that lives in a building that houses artists. Drew's studio is right next to his apartment. Drew has a brother, Cort, and he told us a story about his brother. Drew's brother had dyslexia, was put in remedial classes, and was out of school by the 9th grade. Awhile ago there came a time when Cort was homeless, and he lived in his car. The car Cort was living in was repossessed, and he soon was living in another car behind another brother's home. During the wintertime they hooked a space heater up to the car to keep it warm. That went on for awhile, and then Cort went to live at another sister's home in her shed. Drew heard from his older sister who said that they need to do something about Cort. Drew's sister suggested giving him money. Drew said no, because that would not help. Drew helped Cort with a home in the basement where Drew lives. Drew said that it took about a year for Cort to get things together, and throughout this time Drew would have conversations with his brother. Drew said that one day it just hit him. Drew said that he realized what an intelligent man his brother was. Drew said that he just wondered, "what had we done to him?"
