Sarah Weihi:
Sarah is a research doctor who lives with her partner Tyson and their dog Libby. Sarah gardens with Tyson, but said that he is more interested in the infrastructure of gardening. We met Sarah at her work to discuss gardening. Sarah has knowledge in many areas of gardening that range from the placement of vegetables and fruits to composting. Sarah is interested in intensive gardening, and she said that doing intensive gardening only required two hours during the whole season of weeding. Another concept Sarah is interested in is organic gardening because it is healthy and when using organic fertilizer it provides a slow release, rather than store bought fertilizers. Sarah said that one thing she could probably teach other gardeners would be about composting. Sarah said composting is important because the soil here is bad and consists of clay because the land is not aerated and it is flat. Sarah has entertained the idea of having a public domain strip in her yard for individuals with no space to garden on, but the disadvantage is that the strip would be too far to regularly water. Sarah has been interested in collecting rain water in drums from her roof, and this would help with the lack of water. In Sarah’s garden you would find raspberries, sunflowers, strawberries, rhubarb, mint, sage, pole beans, clover, peas, zucchini, summer squash, lettuce, and more.
